Information we process
When you scan a barcode or search for a product, the request is sent through the Junk Food Scan service to USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts. If you explicitly choose Analyze photo, the selected image is sent through our service to OpenAI for a constrained product candidate and visible-label reading.
Accounts and cloud data
If you choose to sign in, Supabase processes your email address or social sign-in identity and authentication session. Cloud backup is manual. When you choose to back up, saved products and swaps, lists, preferences, recent activity, and text-only report details may be stored in your private account area. Optional missing-product photos upload only after confirmation.
On-device data
Guest preferences, saved items, lists, report drafts, scan activity, and usage counters are stored locally on your device or browser. They may be lost if you uninstall the app, clear app data, or reset the browser.
How we use information
We use information only to provide product lookup, photo analysis you request, authentication, manual backup and restore, usage limits, missing-product reports, support, security, account deletion, and limited first-party website measurement. We do not sell personal information, use advertising trackers, or use your data for cross-app advertising.

Website interaction measurement
On the public JFS website, we may record a small allowlisted set of first-party interaction events such as app-download calls to action, pricing, scoring, Smart Snack Swap, and trust-center links. The event payload contains only the event type and page path. It does not include cookies, account identifiers, search terms, referrers, advertising IDs, or IP addresses in the application event record. Browser-side measurement is disabled when Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control is enabled. Render may still process standard connection data as our hosting provider under its own terms.
Service providers
The app and website currently rely on Supabase for authentication and private cloud data, USDA FoodData Central and community-maintained Open Food Facts for product information, OpenAI for user-requested photo analysis, Render for service hosting and limited first-party website event logs, Expo for app build and delivery services, RevenueCat for subscription entitlement and purchase-status handling, and Apple, Google, or Meta when you use their store or sign-in services. Each provider handles data under its own terms and privacy practices.
Retention and deletion
Local data remains until you clear it or remove the app. Account data remains while your account is active or as reasonably needed for security, legal obligations, and service operation. Signed-in users can initiate permanent account deletion inside the app. When configured, deletion of the linked RevenueCat customer profile is also requested. Apple or Google may retain purchase records under their own legal and store requirements. You can also use our public deletion instructions.
Security and choices
We use HTTPS and keep server credentials outside the mobile app. No method is perfectly secure. You may use core guest features without an account, decline photo upload, avoid cloud backup, export recognized local data, clear local data, or delete your cloud account.
Children and health information
Junk Food Scan is a general-audience educational tool and is not medical, dietary, or allergen-safety advice. Do not submit sensitive medical information. Parents and guardians should supervise use by children.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the product changes. The effective date above identifies the current version. Questions or privacy requests may be sent to support@atlasbuildstudio.com.
